How does this initiative support Baltimore’s other priorities?
Revitalizing vacancy supports safer neighborhoods, stronger health outcomes, economic growth, and equity — all central goals of plans like Baltimore Together, Our Baltimore, and the Gun Violence Reduction Strategy.
This work supports and advances all of Baltimore’s key priorities. Stable, quality housing is the foundation for strong communities, better health, safer streets, and inclusive economic growth. Under Mayor Scott’s leadership, Baltimore has experienced two consecutive years of significant reductions in violence, work that Mayor Scott is helping bring about through focused attention and collaboration.
Both Baltimore Together, the City’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDs plan), and Our Baltimore, the City’s Comprehensive Plan, utilize the principle of building from strength, a core principle of the comprehensive housing strategy. Eliminating vacant properties supports a comprehensive and holistic vision for the City of Baltimore, and builds a city of unique, vibrant neighborhoods for all of Baltimore. Together, and in partnership with Governor Moore, these plans and efforts all work to address the economic and racial disparities that have plagued Baltimore for too long.
